Each year, November is recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month. While all adoption-related issues are important, the particular focus of this month is the adoption of children currently in foster care.
Foster care is a state run child welfare system that provides alternative living arrangements for children whose parents are unable to provide adequate care. And the numbers don't lie. According to FosterClub, the national network for young people in foster care that provides training and resource education, 415,129 children were in foster care on September 30th, 2014, a 4% increase from 2012, 60,898 children waiting to be adopted whose parental rights (for all living parents) were terminated.
