![]() Today, I had the pleasure of presenting a workshop Trauma Informed Strategies in School Settings for the Virginia Department of Education Conference on Tiered System and PBIS! Traumatic experiences can undermine children’s ability to learn, form relationship, and function appropriately in the classroom. This greatly impacts their development of language and communication skills, organization of narrative material, ability to understand cause and effect relationships and to take another’s person’s perspectives, attentiveness to classroom tasks and executive functions (such as goal setting and planning, anticipating consequences), and ability to engage the classroom curriculum and instruction. It is important for educators to gain more understanding of how trauma impacts children and learning. For more opportunities in building a trauma sensitive school in early childhood, public or private education, or college settings, please feel free to contact BFE at beginningsfamilyenrichment@gmail.com.
